Trip Overview

This very beautiful, yet not too arduous, 7-8 day trek is our portfolio’s most recent addition, which aims to help both the environment and the development of the Mohare Danda trekking area.

The trekking trail moves away from the better-known, and over-used routes within the world’s deepest gorge, between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, by gently veering off into a side valley, where conventional lodges and camping places are so far unknown. The route offers everything to be hoped for in a classic Nepal trekking experience, including traditional villages with low-roofed stone houses, unique mountain wildlife, and panoramic Himalayan views.  Scenery includes a range of landscape from sub-tropical rice terraces to alpine meadows, and the trek itself passes through scented forests of oak, rhododendron and spruce, with some trails along exposed ridges which offer unsurpassed views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range. One particularly impressive and unforgettable view is that of the impeccable, forked summit of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail); an archetypal mountain, standing alone, and representing the idyllic expectation of visitors to this small, Himalayan country.

We wish to have a positive impact on Nepal’s environment, communities and economy, by spreading the benefits of trekking tourism among villages beyond the main routes. We will enjoy overnight accommodation in simple community lodges along the Khopra and Mohare Danda route, which belong to the villages, rather than to individual owners, with profits contributing to neighbourhood projects such as funding local schools.

This special trekking experience is flanked by a few days in the bustlingly exciting capital, Kathmandu. There, you may enjoy a comfortable Nepalese-owned hotel, visit World Heritage sites such as Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambunath ‘Monkey Temple’, and enjoy Thamel’s curious and narrow streets and alleys with their enticing shops and street vendors. In addition you will have the option of a visit to our various Jamarko projects for disadvantaged women and children, where you may meet some of our sponsored schoolchildren, and our women weavers at the craft village.

A final mention must be of another, often-overlooked, memorable experience;  the tourist bus ride to Pokhara. The bus route follows an elevated mountain road overlooking the mighty Trisuli and Marsghyangdi Rivers, which bends its way through the many small villages lining the route, where you may observe Nepalese families enjoying their colourful, daily lives. This extraordinary road rises out of the Kathmandu valley, and then descends gradually around hard-hewn bends, which hug the hillsides, until arriving in the flatlands of rice paddies and the sub-tropical, photogenic lakeside town of Pokhara, for overnight rest and relaxation prior to the start of this quite amazing Khopra and Mohare Danda trek.
