Trip Overview

Often described as incomparable, this trip is a combination of one of most stunning viewpoint treks in Nepal, exhilarating white-water rafting, and a Himalayan wildlife experience with elephant-back safari. The trail is not overly difficult, and this short, low-altitude trek, including Ghodepani and Pun Hill, from where there is a magnificent 360 degree panoramic view of snow- covered peaks, can be undertaken in just seven days. The Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, which include two of the world’s highest mountains, as well as the famed Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), are among the stupendous peaks to be seen on this trek.

The trip combines the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, and its ancient world heritage sites, with the laid-back relaxation of Pokhara. This lakeside town, gateway to Annapurna trekking, is set in the closest valley (in distance 29 km) to the great Himalaya, and the trek proper begins only a short, scenic drive away. The area is home to the Magar and Gurung communities, and of the many villages passed through, Ghandruk is the largest Gurung village in all Nepal, and home to many men who have served, or are still serving, with the British Gurkha armed forces.

This is a classic trek with spectacular mountain views, terraced fields, some steep climbs, breath-taking sunrises, jungles and beautiful rhododendron forests (the tree rhododendron, Lali Gurans, is Nepal’s national flower).
